FUNERAL LEAVE
- If a death occurs among the members of an employee's immediate family or household, and
the employee was scheduled to work during the seven (7) consecutive days beginning with
the day of death, the employee will be excused from work for up to five (5) days of the seven (7) day period and will be paid at his straight-time rate chargeable to accumulated sick leave credits, or without pay if no sick leave credits are available.
The immediate family is defined as spouse, children, siblings, parents/foster parents, grandparents, grandchildren of the employee or spouse. An addition to this list shall include legal guardianship, other direct dependants, or an individual whom an employee has a continuing personal arrangement which has existed over an extended period of time. Additional leave may be granted inn special cases, subject to the approval of the Employer, such additional leave to be chargeable to sick leave or to be without pay.
- Absence of reasonable length of time to serve as a pallbearer or to attend a funeral may be charged against sick leave.
