ABOUT THE CENTER

The Center for Professional Development and Quality Improvement (CPDQI) at Michigan Technological University has been established to advance individual and organizational performance excellence by providing opportunities for learning, quality improvement, and knowledge exchange in support of the university mission. The CPDQI (formerly known as Quality Service Education) has sponsored over 140 workshops over the past nine years. The Center periodically offers workshops to both on- and off-campus participants on topics such delegation, customer service, time management, effective interviewing, and project management to name a few. The Center also provides consultation and facilitation on strategic planning, process improvement, and effective group techniques.

The Center for Professional Development and Quality Improvement is located in Human Resources of the Administration Building. In our office you will find a multitude of resources at your disposal. You can check out any of the hundreds of books on topics such as change, leadership, customer service, teams and teambuilding, conflict, strategic planning, and the list goes on. The Center also has a number of video and audio resources at your disposal.

FACILITATION AND RETREATS

For the Campus
The staff of the Center can also assist departments and organizations in their efforts to address issues specific to that department. Many departments have utilized the Center staff for strategic planning sessions, team-building sessions, or to address specific needs such as effective meeting strategies. Some of the departments the Center has worked with departments include the Seamen Mineral Museum, Educational Opportunity, Financial Aid, the Van Pelt Library, Career Services, Accounting Department, NCBI, Extended University Programs, Research and the Graduate School, and Internal Audit. For departments needing customer based feedback, the Center can conduct focus groups to gather important information. The Center has conducted focus groups for the J.R. VanPelt Library, Research and Graduate School, and Human Resources.

For the Community
The Center has reached out to the community to assist in strategic planning and retreat facilitation. The Houghton-Portage Township School District and the Keweenaw Community Foundation have used the services of the Center to help them set the course for their strategic planning initiatives.

Rates for workshops and consulting services are based on organization type, size, and development required. Please contact the Center to find out more about specific rates for your department or organization.
