Laser Use Without Protective Housing (All Classes)
In some circumstances, such as during the manufacture of lasers, and during
research and development, operation of an unenclosed laser or laser system may
become necessary. In such cases, the LSO shall determine the hazard and ensure
that controls are instituted appropriate to the class of maximum accessible emission
to ensure safe operation. Such controls may include but are not limited to:
- Access restriction.
- Eye protection.
- Area controls.
- Barriers, shrouds, beam stops, etc.
- Administrative and procedural controls.
- Education and training.
