Commuter Student Vehicle Registration Form

The Office of Student Records and Registration handles vehicle registration and paid parking for those students who commute to campus. We are located on the first floor of the Administration/Student Services Building, Room 110. If you are planning on living in one of the Residence Halls you should register your vehicle with the hall sheriff once you arrive on campus.

The Housing Facilities Office handles the vehicle registration for those students residing in the residence halls on campus. They are located in Douglass Houghton Hall Room G044.


What do I need to do if I am living in the MTU Apartments (Daniell Heights)?

If you are living in Daniell Heights, you will have to stop in their office and obtain a parking authorization form. This form will contain your apartment and parking space number. If you are a student, bring the form to the Office of Student Records and Registration and we will then give you your parking decal. If you are a faculty or staff member you must go to Public Safety to pick up your decal.

What do I need to do to register my vehicle?

If you drive your vehicle to campus it should be registered with the Office of Student Records and Registration even if you are parking at the meters. There is no fee involved for registering your vehicle on campus. You will be required to fill out a vehicle registration form in the office. The form consists of your license plate number, vehicle make, model, year, body style, and color. You will then be given a decal that should be placed in the lower right hand corner of your windshield.

What are the fees involved?

The parking fee is $25.00 per semester, and $50.00 per year (fall and spring). Parking is on a first come first serve basis. The parking fee is charged to your account, and your student ID card allows you access to your assigned parking lot fourty eight hours after you have signed up for the parking.

What are the different parking lots available on campus?

There are three commuter student parking lots located on campus. Lot 9 is open to all commuter students and is located behind the Rozsa Center. This lot is available on a first come first serve basis daily with the overflow going to lot 32 (St. Al's), lot 26 (located on Garnet St.), or the SDC lots. How does parking work during the summer months?

Lot 9 is available to students during the summer months free of charge. You must have a MTU decal on your car.

How do I go about signing up for parking for the following year?

Parking passes for the following year are available beginning 10th week of Spring Semester and throughout the Summer. The decals will be mailed to you in early August, and the parking fee will be charged to your account.

How do I register motorcycles or snowmobiles on campus?

Motorcycles are registered in the Office of Student Records and Registration, and can only be parked in designated motorcycle parking areas. Snowmobiles have to be registered with the Public Safety Office which is located on MacInnes Dr in the Widmaier House. Both are free of charge.
