Transfer Credit

The MTU Transfer Services Office can be reached at (906) 487-3323 or by email at stuosrr@mtu.edu

MTU maintains a full-time Transfer Services Office for new, current and former students intending to transfer courses to MTU. This office is located in the Administration/Student Services Building, Room 110.

Courses at MTU are currently offered on a semester system. New incoming transfer students must submit an application for admissions, an application fee and official transcripts to the Admissions Office. Call 487-2335 for further information on the admissions process.

Current/Former students who would like more information concerning course equivalency transfers to MTU from other colleges/universities, may contact MTU Transfer Services @ (906) 487-3323 or by email at stuosrr@mtu.edu. In order to process incoming transfer credit, an official transcript must be submitted to the Office of Student Records and Registration for evaluation. Our mailing address is:

Office of Student Records and Registration
110 Admin. Building
1400 Townsend Drive
Houghton, MI 49931-1295

Transfer credit is granted for appropriate courses completed off-campus with a grade of "C" (2.0) or better.

Current MTU students who would like to be a temporary (guest) student at another Michigan college/university, may use the Michigan Uniform Undergraduate Guest Application (available at most Michigan colleges and universities). Complete PART I of the application and submit the form to the MTU Office of Student Records and Registration for processing. If you plan to be a guest student in another state other than Michigan, obtain an application directly from the host institution.

NOTE:

  • If you are an MTU Senior and plan to take courses off-campus, check with your departmental advisor or the Office of Student Records and Registration to ensure that you are not in violation of the enrollment requirement for graduation that states that a student must be enrolled for the last two semesters (30 credits) of academic work at the university.
  • Upper division (3000-4000 level) MTU course transfers require prior written approval from the appropriate department
  • Current/Former MTU students are required to take UN1001 and UN1002 on campus.
