Degree Audit Information and Instructions

In order to help assure that you meet all graduation requirements, it is necessary that you complete a degree audit at least two semesters prior to the anticipated completion of your degree.

Currently, there are two types of degree audits:

  1. Transition - Required for students who began their academic career prior to fall, 2000, and have both quarter and semester courses/credits.
  2. Semester - Required for students who began their academic career fall, 2000, or later and have only semester courses/credits.

Degree Audits are available in the Degree Services Office, from your Academic Advisor, and on the OSRR Degree Services Website.

Complete your degree audit by using the course status codes listed below and a copy of your MTU transcript:

  • M - Required, met with a grade of A,B,C,D, Transfer credit, or advanced placement credit
  • R - Currently registered in course
  • P - Plan to take in the future
  • WVD - Waived course or credit (waived courses and credits do not reduce the total degree credits required)
  • SUB - Course has been successfully petitioned as a substitute, satisfying the curriculum requirement. Put the number of the course you are substituting on the line next to the required course.

Note: Be sure to put courses in the appropriate category (major, concentration, general education, free electives) checking them off on your transcript to make certain you don't miss any. Remedial courses (courses below 100/quarters or 1000/semesters do not count toward degree credit and should not be listed on your audit.

Once you have completed your degree audit and all requirements for graduation are being met (indicated by completed, registered or planned courses) schedule a meeting with your academic advisor to review and sign the degree audit. Make sure you keep a copy of your degree audit, once approved.

Your advisor will forward the approved audit and any additional paperwork to the University Degree Services Office where they will be kept on file until your graduation.

Please note: You must have a degree audit on file in order for Degree Services to confirm your graduation and list you for a commencement ceremony.

Making Changes to a Degree Audit

Many changes may take place after submission of a degree audit (substitution of one course for another, failure of a course, etc.). If you have altered your original course plan in any way since completion of your degree audit, it is necessary that you inform your academic advisor of the changes as soon as possible. Updating your audit is an essential step in making sure that you stay on track for graduation.

If numerous changes have taken place since you first turned your degree audit in to your advisor making it messy or illegible, consult with your advisor about completing a new one for submission to Degree Services. It is imperative that we have a neat, concise, final degree audit form suitable for checking and archiving.

Please remember - it is your responsibility to make sure your degree audit is correct at all times.
