Location: Hamar House Telephone: 487-2538 Hours: Monday-Friday, 8:00 a.m.-5:00 p.m. World Wide Web: http://www.counseling.mtu.edu/ The Counseling Services Office provides free and confidential service to MTU students and their spouses. Counseling Services assists you with those academic, social, and personal/emotional issues that may interfere with the effective use of your talents in the college setting. Confidential services are available on both an individual and group basis. Counseling helps students improve their feelings of well-being by helping develop decision-making skills, stress-management skills, interpersonal communication skills, and self-awareness. Any concern a student may have, including depression, pregnancy, anxiety, loneliness, sexuality, substance abuse, or relationship problems, can be discussed with a professional counselor. In addition to counseling, substance abuse assessment and referrals are offered, as well as alcohol and other drug education programs. Other services include administering and interpreting personality tests, such as the Myers-Briggs Type Indicator. Workshops are offered in time management, study skills, Adult Children of Alcoholics, eating disorders, surviving sexual assault, substance abuse, and self-defeating behaviors. Professional counselors are available for crisis intervention twenty-four hours a day when classes are in session. Appointments can be scheduled within a few days, but, in case of emergency, a counselor will be available immediately. If you are interested in group meetings or seminars, you can sign up by contacting our office. |
