Advice for
Michigan Technological University Faculty/GTA's
on Instructional Issues
The Michigan Tech Center for Teaching, Learning, and Faculty Development offers
individualized advice and assistance to Michigan Tech faculty members or GTA's
seeking to improve areas of their instruction. Arrangement for any of
the services listed below can be made by calling the Center at 487-2046.
These services are private and confidential. If the faculty member or
GTA requests, the Center will provide written acknowledgement that
these services are being utilized to the department chair or instructional
supervisor.
Services:
Review of Student Rating of Instruction Responses - Upon request, the
'Director will review the student's responses to instruction and make
suggestions regarding techniques for improvement. It is most helpful,
in these situations, if complete sets of responses for 3-5 classes are
submitted for review.
Review of Course Materials, Syllabi, and Course Assessment Instruments
(Tests, Quizzes, Assignments) - Instructional personnel can also submit
course materials to the Center which will provide a written critique
of those materials based upon current thinking regarding testing and
measurement, syllabus development, and course design. Upon request,
the Center will also seek comments from outside reviewers from related
disciplines at other institutions.
Classroom Visitations or Videotaping - The Center will observe and/or
videotape class sessions for Michigan Tech faculty members or GTA's . Any
videotapes remain the property of the instructor and will be reviewed
by the Center Director, if requested. Upon the request of the faculty
or GTA, reports of classroom visitations and/or videotape reviews of
teaching will be forwarded to the department chair or instructional
supervisor.
