Who Should Attend: New International GTAs.

Purpose: To acquaint participants with American instructional practices and procedures.

When: 8:00 a.m. - Noon

“Michigan Tech Students, Programs, Policies, and Procedures”

Who Should Attend: New non-international GTAs who did not attend Michigan Tech as undergraduates.

Purpose: To acquaint participants with the needs of Michigan Tech undergraduates.

When: 8:00 a.m. - Noon

Where: Third Floor, J. R. Van Pelt and Opie Library


“Shifting Gears: Being an Effective Teaching Assistant”

Who Should Attend: ALL new non-international GTAs. (Including those who attended the 8:00 session)

Purpose: To acquaint participants with successful strategies for serving students and succeeding as graduate students.

When: 10:00 a.m. - Noon

Where: Third Floor, J. R. Van Pelt and Opie Library

Who Should Attend: New International GTAs. (Including those who attended the Monday session)

Purpose: To acquaint participants with American instructional practices and procedures.

When: Friday, August 28, 2009, 9:00 a.m. - Noon

Where: Third Floor, J. R. Van Pelt and Opie Library


NOTE: All international students, whose first language is not English, must take and pass the SPEAK Test (test of spoken English) before being given instructional duties. If you have not taken the test, please contact the Center for Teaching, Learning, and Faculty Development, 487-2046, or stop by the office, Room 219 J. R. Van Pelt and Opie Library, to arrange a time to take the test during Orientation Week.
