With time running out, junior guard Sarah Stream dribbled down the
floor, squeezed between two Hillsdale defenders, and launched
a long 3-pointer. Good! The huge crowd erupts, and she was
fouled! She makes the free throw, and with 1.8 seconds
left, a Hillsdale defender launches a shot from the sideline
beyond halfcourt, and it went in.
And
that was just the first half.
The two teams traded many baskets, and the Huskies fell short, 98-91, but still have the advantage for the playoffs. Stream would score her 1,000th point in the contest.
The women will host the GLIAC North Tournament, beginning Tuesday, March 3.
Saturday was Senior Day at the SDC Wood Gym, and it was time to honor the players who have played four years for the basketball Huskies (pictured above). It was bittersweet, not only because they were playing their last regular season home games but because both teams lost. Robby Springborn also got his 1,000th point.
It was also Breast Cancer Awareness Day, and pink shirts could be seen everywhere in the crowd. Some of the players even had pink shoelaces, and the coaches sported pink ties.
The hockey Huskies set a new team record and tied a WCHA record with their seventh tie a couple of hours later in the MacInnes Student Ice Arena.
The SDC was the epicenter of activity for a couple of days, and it was great to see so many people enjoying it.
The playoffs should be very interesting!

competitors. The weather was much
to warm and created some issues. The U.S. National People Choice Award
had been decided by an unexpectedly lopsided vote and was awarded to us, "Team
Michigan". Shortly after, the U.S. National Snow Carving Grand Championship
was awarded to three artistically challenged engineers from Morrice, Midland
and Rockford Michigan. As you can see in the attached pictures, we were
three very proud Huskies.
