John Ball Park
This was our first year for this event. And what a SUCCESS it was!!
Our first ever "New Student Sendoff" BBQ Picnic was held at the upper pavilion of Grand Rapids' John Ball Park. 260 people attended the event! What with free food and drink, we think we've found the secret of getting folks out to an event!
We had near-perfect weather for the all-you-can eat picnic (OK, so there were a few scattered raindrops here and there...) MTU Director of Alumni Relations Steph Olsson gave an informative talk, welcomed all the new students heading up to Tech, and assured all their parents what great choice of college their son or daughter made.
There were several Tech alumni in attendance, as well. After Steph's talk, he held a FREE raffle of great prizes, and threw in a boatload of free givaways, as well. Everyone enjoyed socializing with other MTU alumni.
If all goes as planned, we hope to host a similar event next year. If you have any ideas to pass along to the Chapter Board, or you can e-mail us and let us know what you'd like to see happen next year!
