Section 9.6 Academic Support Services

9.6.9 Research Services

The Research Services Office provides the following services for all areas of the University:

  1. Monitors potential funding opportunities.
  2. Establishes and maintains contact with potential funding sources.
  3. Informs the University community of existing and newly-emerging funding programs.
  4. Overall administration of services in support of research.
  5. Processes all proposals and negotiates contractual agreements.
  6. Advises and assists investigators with:
    1. Identifying, selecting, and contacting potential sponsors.
    2. Developing and composing proposals, and when appropriate, monitoring federal acquisition regulations.
    3. Compliance with contractual agreements, close-out procedures and when appropriate, monitoring federal acquisitions regulations.
    4. Developing a budget and establishing a project account.
    5. Processing project modification, extension, and renewal requests.
    6. Processing formal proposals to comply with the University's and sponsor's requirements and regulations.
    7. Processing contractual agreement close-out procedures (excludes account reconcilement, final reports, etc.).
    8. Negotiating with funding agencies.
    9. Writing and negotiating subcontracts under MTU project accounts.
  7. Reports for the University body regarding funding received.
  8. Communicates federal regulations and requirements related to the general administration of research funding.
