Michigan Technological University observes six paid holidays: New Year's Day, Memorial Day, Independence Day, Labor Day, Thanksgiving Day, and Christmas Day. In addition, the University may declare other days, not to exceed four for the year, as holidays. Presently this includes the day preceding New Year's Day, the day preceding Christmas, the day following Thanksgiving, one-half day for Good Friday, and one-half day for K-day.
When a holiday falls on a Sunday, it may, at the discretion of the University, be observed on the following Monday. When a holiday falls on a Saturday, it may, at the discretion of the University, be observed on the preceding Friday.
To be eligible for holiday pay, you must have eight hours of employment status during the normally scheduled work week in which the holiday falls.
Holidays during vacation or sick leave are not counted as part of vacation or sick leave time. (Board of Control Policy 5.5)
