The Distinguished Teacher Award, presented annually to a professor or associate professor and an assistant professor, commemorates outstanding achievements in the field of teaching. The honor was established more than thirty years ago and carries with it a citation as well as an honorarium that may be used for further scholarly development. Recipients of the Distinguished Teaching Award are selected by a special committee that reviews award nominations from students, faculty members, and alumni.
Research excellence in a scientific, engineering, or social topic is the primary criterion for the Research Award. The degree of research achievement is measured by the quality of publications, the professional impact of the research results, and the overall contribution to the graduate program. The Research Award, consisting of a citation and honorarium, is presented to members of Michigan Tech's faculty and research agencies.
