Dear Deans, Department Chairs, Department Coordinators,
There are many of us that have been welcomed graciously to the area and
feel that our needs are met. However, sometimes those that are new to
the area don't feel as openly welcomed or quickly connected. The
Michigan Tech Women's Connection (formerly the University Women's Club)
would like to make you aware of some ways to welcome new employees and
their families.
We encourage you to consider the following when bringing a new employee
on board:
* Find a mentor within the department
* Introduce the new employee to others across campus with similar
interests or needs
* Invite them or encourage others to invite them to University and
community activities
Contact me or other members of the UWC. We have women within the UWC
that are willing to mentor employees, spouses, or partners. If people
are happy they will be more productive.
I appreciate your time and you may contact me at valencook@charter.net
or 483-4837 anytime if you have any questions. We are happy to assist
and look forward to serving as a resource as new faculty and staff
arrive in the area.
Thank you.
Sincerely,
Stephanie Valentine-Cook
Chair, University Women's Connection Welcome Committee
