Subject: 3/26 Academic Forum (2-4 pm, Ballroom A) from Provost Lovett-Doust

On Tuesday, March 25, Dr. Andrew (AT) Miller, director of the University
of Michigan Center for Research on Teaching and Learning, will conduct
two interactive sessions for faculty entitled, /Teaching for
Inclusion/.  Last time Dr. Miller visited us, in September 2007, his
professional development workshop was rated as very helpful by 60% of
the over 40 faculty who participated, and helpful by 38%.  Most (90%)
indicated that they would encourage their peers to attend a similar
session, so here we go!

In addition to the two workshops, AT will conduct three focus groups,
one with new faculty, one with students and the third with represented
staff.  The focus group dialog will serve to explore progress on our
Climate Study.  He will continue to work with Chris Anderson to assess
workshop evaluations and focus group feedback to help us to effectively
address cultural climate issues and identify campus strengths.

Also, Dr. Miller has been invited to join us for the *Wednesday, March
26 Academic Forum *(MUB Ballroom A).  He will discuss the climate study
and comment on some of the successes and challenges that remain.  He
will also describe some approaches to attracting and hiring diverse
faculty and processes that have been successful at other institutions.

AT Miller will be the main agenda item for our March 26 Academic Forum.
Details of the other presentations will be circulated shortly by Chris
Anderson.
