All:

In summary of the negotiations with AAUP this week:

- The negotiating teams met Monday, discussed/accomplished the items below, and cancelled the rest of the scheduled negotiations for this week.  The next scheduled negotiating session is October 26-27.

- The University and AAUP reached tentative agreement on four more articles - articles 1, 7, 10, and 12.  This brings the total tentative agreement to six articles;  the web site at http://www.admin.mtu.edu/hro/adminresources/AAUP/AAUP101005.htm has been updated with the agreed-to language (along with any new proposals presented by either side).

- The University and AAUP have been discussing establishment of a subcommittee to examine the promotion and tenure article.  The union countered yesterday on the charge to the subcommittee.  This will be discussed further at the next session.

- The union presented counter proposals on articles 14 and 17, while the University presented a counter proposal on article 16.

- The sides discussed the union proposal on intellectual property.

There may occasionally be delays in sending these updates following sessions because we will wait until the web site has been updated, but we will continue getting these out as soon as we can following the sessions.
