Dear Deans and Chairs,

Ellen Horsch sent the below message to the Academic Forum list on July 27, 2005, and it bounced to me as owner, and it was overlooked.  I apologize for the lateness.

Deans and Chairs:

Below is an update on today's negotiations, July 27, 2005 [Yesterday's
negotiations were cancelled because the University's attorney could not
make his connecting flight out of Minneapolis]:

- As with any traditional bargaining session, the University asked the AAUP
to hold on discussions regarding economic proposals before we have
agreement on the non-economic articles.

- The University gave counter proposals on Article 16 Grievance and Appeal
and Article 17 Retrenchment.  The University rejected AAUP's proposals on
Article 18 Reorganization and Article 25 Transfer of Tenure and Rank
between Academic Units.

- The AAUP proposed a new version on Article 15 Tenure, Promotion, and
Reappointment and introduced Article 19 Intellectual Property, Article 22
Benefits, and Article 23 Leaves.  Articles 19, 22, and 23 are economic
proposals and discussions will be on hold until we have agreement on the
non-economic proposals.

- The University agreed to respond to Article 15 on Tenure, Promotion, and
Reappointment and to submit a proposal on Management Rights at the next
negotiating session;  the union agreed to respond to the University's
counter proposals on Article 16 Grievance and Appeal and Article 17
Retrenchment at the next session.

- The next set of scheduled negotiations is August 3, 2005.

Ellen
