Subject: Faculty Labor Update - March 27, 2007
Reply-To: Ellen Horsch <eshorsch@mtu.edu>

On Friday, March 9, the day after the Unfair Labor Practice opinion from
Judge Stern was received, a meeting with the AAUP was requested by the
University. At that meeting, the University proposed to not file any
exceptions or appeals to the judge's opinion as long as the Union also
agreed not to file any exceptions. Also, the University proposed to the
AAUP to drop the pending Unfair Labor Practice in order to begin
negotiations with a "clean slate".

I'm pleased to inform you that the Union accepted the University's
proposal and we plan to start negotiations on April 11. I will forward to you shortly
the waiver between the attorneys for the Union and the University.

We are committed to bargaining in good faith and working together to
achieve a contract that is in the best interests of the institution.
