Subject: Faculty Union Update Nov. 30

All:

At the AAUP's request, the hearing on the unfair labor practice related to the 2006 faculty raises, originally scheduled for Friday, December 8, has been postponed until after the judge issues her opinion on the ULP related to the 2005 raises.  It’s likely that the December hearings will be rescheduled for sometime in the future, perhaps February or March. During the call discussing this, the Michigan Employment Relations Commission Administrative Law Judge (ALJ) for this second case indicated that she has not yet begun drafting her opinion related to the first ULP; the ALJ indicated that it would be a month to six weeks or more before she issues her opinion in that case.  As you might remember from previous messages, the timing of the judge's opinion for the first ULP is not unexpected; our understanding from the beginning was that we would not hear anything related to the first case until very late this year or into the spring semester.
