Subject: Faculty Union Update- October 22, 2007
Good Evening,
In ongoing negotiations, the University met with the AAUP on Tuesday,
October 9 and Wednesday, October 10. We will be meeting on October 23,
24, 25, and 26.
To summarize the current state of negotiations:
· Currently the University owes the AAUP a response on three articles
and gave the Union a respond date of either October 23 or 24.
· The AAUP owes the University nine responses on articles and has given
definite response dates on one of the articles.
· We have signed off on 13 tentatively agreed upon articles but hope to
sign off on Article 16, Grievances tomorrow. We are at 3 in a state of
“no movement”. Both the Association and the University withdrew Article
32, Discipline and Sanctions upon agreeing to Article 29, No Strike, No
Lockout.
On October 23, the University plans to continue discussions on Article
14,Governance; Article 15, Promotion, Tenure, and Reappointment; and
Article 18, Reorganization. On October 24, the University will continue
discussions on Article 22, Benefits. The Union will respond to Article
19, Intellectual Properties.
The Unfair Labor Practice Hearing in Lansing starts on October 30. The
AAUP did not respond to our Motion to Dismiss Fact Finding and has asked
for an extension from the Michigan Employment Relations Commission. The
Commission granted them an extension until tomorrow.
As is in the past, I encourage you to review the latest proposals at
