Subject: Faculty Union Update-January 2, 2008
Good Afternoon,

As I mentioned in my December 6, 2007 Union update, a prehearing
conference call was scheduled for December 12, 2007.  At that prehearing
conference call, Dr. James Mihelcic, Professor of Environmental
Engineering who is the Petitioner; Gordon Gregory, counsel for Union;
Bob Strassburg, elections officer for the Michigan Employment Relations
Commission (MERC); Craig Schwartz of Butzel Long representing the
University; and Dave Reed, Deb Lassila, and me also representing
the University.  Given the holidays, MERC has not sent the official
written stipulation for the election, but all parties reached an
agreement to an election for "tenured and tenure-track faculty,
excluding all other employees" that will be held February 20 and 21,
2008.  The election will take place in B3 of the MUB, 7:30-9:30AM and
11:30AM-1:30PM each day and 4:00-6:00 PM only on February 20, 2008.
There will be a provision for mail ballots for tenure and tenure
track-faculty who are scheduled to be on sabbatical, professional leave,
scheduled sick leave, medical leave, employment-related travel or leave
of absence. The method for requesting a mail ballot will be distributed
by separate mailing to all tenure and tenure-track faculty with copy to
all deans and chairs.

If you have any questions, please do not hesitate to contact me.

Ellen
