8.1. Emergency Maintenance

Definition

Emergency Maintenance: Situations requiring immediate attention because of failure in or around University facilities that could cause significant damage to the building, building systems, and equipment. These situations could create unmanageable or unsafe conditions that would expose personnel to a significant possibility of harm.

Policy

During normal working hours of 8 a.m. to 5 p.m., Monday through Friday, all utility breaks and problems observed and encountered on the campus are reported to Facilities Management. After normal working hours, on weekends and holidays utility breaks and other problems are reported directly to the Public Safety Department.

Emergency maintenance will be taken care of promptly.

Procedure

To call for Emergency Maintenance, do the following:

  1. During normal working hours, call Facilities Operations at 7-2711 or Facilities Management at 7-2303. If the phones are busy call Public Safety at 7-2216 or 7-2217.

  2. NOTE: Make it clear the call is about emergency maintenance.

  3. During other than normal working hours, call Public Safety at 7-2216 or 7-2217. If both Public Safety lines are busy, call the campus operator at 7-1885.
