Chapter 7. Educational Opportunity
7.2. Summer Session
Definition
Summer Session: Summer courses for MTU and guest students.
Policy
Summer courses must be approved by the academic department chair/director prior to being offered. The office of Summer Session will evaluate enrollment for summer sessions to ensure it is cost effective to offer the course and work with the department chairs to determine if courses should be cancelled. All payroll information for faculty teaching summer courses must go through the Summer Session office.
Procedure
Prior to offering a summer course, do the following:
- Receive payroll packets in late winter from the Summer Sessions office. This packet will indicate the due dates for the forms to be returned to the Summer Sessions office.
- Calculate faculty salaries according to the summer salary formula.
- Complete the Summer Session Roster form (found in the packet previously mailed or available from the summer sessions coordinator in the Educational Opportunity department by calling 7-3539) and a status form (available from Payroll Services by calling 7-2130) for each person involved with summer teaching.
NOTE: Be sure to use the summer payroll codes.
- Have the dean verify the faculty nine-month salaries.
- Forward the status forms to the department chair for signature.
- Forward the status forms and Summer Session Roster forms to the dean for signature.
- Forward all forms to the Summer Sessions office for approval.
