This chapter contains information dealing with employment practices and services of the Affirmative Programs Office of the University. The information applies to all employees and departments of the University, but is not all inclusive. For reference purposes, this material covers more general policies and procedures; more specialized information will be covered in other publications, such as the Hiring Guide. Please consult the director of Affirmative Programs if you need interpretive or more specific information, or visit the Web site of the office of Affirmative Programs.
These policies, as written here, are not the complete policies as adopted by the State of Michigan, Board of Control, the Administration, or the federal government. Copies of relevant Board of Control policies in their entirety are available in the Board of Control Policy Manual.
The Affirmative Programs Office, commonly called Affirmative Action Office (AAO), is responsible for compliance with all federal and state laws and regulations regarding discrimination in hiring and employment actions including the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA). To learn more about these laws and the ADA, contact the Affirmative Programs Office by calling 7-3310 or by sending e-mail to aao@mtu.edu. The Affirmative Programs Office monitors and advises departments about the hiring process and other employment actions at MTU.
