3.2. Prospective Undergraduate Student Referrals

Definition

Prospective Undergraduate Student Referrals: The forwarding of potential undergraduate student information to the Admissions Office (domestic students), or to the Center for International Education (international students), for the purpose of student recruitment.

Identified Recruitment Markets: Potential undergraduate MTU students such as high school students, transfer students, adult learners, admitted MTU students, currently enrolled MTU students, guidance counselors, teachers, parents and siblings of prospective students, and undergraduate international students.

Policy

This policy acts as a guide and extends to all University departments. All potential students inquiring about MTU or visiting campus should be referred to the Admissions Office or the Center for International Education in a timely fashion. This includes:

Admissions may refer prospective students to visit a department of interest.

Procedure

When contacted by a prospective student regarding a visit to campus, do the following:

  1. Discuss the nature of the visit.

  2. Refer the prospective student directly to the Admissions Office (for domestic students), located in room G29 of the Administration and Student Services Building, or the Center for International Education (for international students), located in room 131 of the Administration and Student Services Building.

When contacted by a group interested in visiting the campus, do the following:

  1. Discuss the nature of the request with the group contact person.

  2. If the department is hosting or planning activities with the group, contact the Admissions Office (for domestic students) by calling 7-2335, or the Center for International Education (for international students) by calling 7-2160, to keep them informed on what the group will be doing.

  3. If the department is not planning activities for the group, refer the group contact person to call the Admissions Office (for domestic students) at 7-2335, or the Center for International Education (for international students) at 7-2160, so activities can be organized for the group.

Occasionally, prospective students may visit a department without a referral from the Admissions Office. For all potential students who have not been directly referred to the department by the Admissions Office, the visited department should forward the following information to the Admissions Office (for domestic students) or the Center for International Education (for international students), as soon as possible:

  1. Student Information (cards are available from Admissions):
