Section 27.7. Electronic Publications and Design

PREVIOUS PAGE NEXT PAGE

27.7.1. Web Page Design/Production

General Information

The University Relations office should be contacted to review new departmental home pages for consistency of message and readability. See <http://www.admin.mtu.edu/urel/webresources/> for general information about Michigan Tech's home pages.

Policy

See the University Computing Policy for more-specific regulations.

All web pages on any server at Michigan Tech should identify who the page belongs to: administrative or academic unit, student organization or individual student, faculty, or staff member. Refer to the World Wide Web Policy found on the Web site <http://www.it.mtu.edu/cac/caclib/wwwpolicy.html> for the entire policy for web pages.

Web pages for administrative departments, academic departments, and recognized student organizations should be linked to the Michigan Tech Home Page. All these pages should have a contact person who is responsible for content and committed to keeping the Web page up to date.

Servers should be stable and kept running 24 hours a day.

Individual or personal pages will not be included as links from the Michigan Tech home page. Individual home pages of students, staff, and faculty may be linked within the structure of their departmental Web pages.

Departments will be charged a fee or an hourly rate for reproducing print publications for the Web or for Web-site design or production.

Procedure
  1. Contact the department systems administrator to determine where the web page will be stored.

  2. NOTE: Clients who wish to have new or revised Web-sites designed or who wish to have a publication reproduced for the Web, should contact the director of Marketing Communications at 7-3510.

  3. Develop the desired web page, following the Michigan Tech World Wide Web Policy as found on Web site <http://www.it.mtu.edu/cac/caclib/wwwpolicy.html>.

  4. Clients who wish to have Web pages reviewed to be linked to the Michigan Tech home page should send e-mail with the URLs of pages to be reviewed to the University webmaster.
