Policy

The University operates its recreational facilities primarily for educational and recreational purposes for its students. These facilities may be made available to University departments and organizations and the general public if their use does not interfere with the facilities' primary purpose. University recreational facilities are not intended to provide all of the features or services provided by similar commercial facilities.

The users of University recreational facilities must maintain order and abide by the rules and regulations of the University and the individual recreational unit as well as those of all federal, state, and local governing authorities. All violations are to be reported to the unit manager and/or the department of Public Safety.

Permission to use any University recreational facility must be obtained from the individual unit manager and is nontransferable. The University reserves the right to cancel, terminate, or modify the use of any or all University recreational facilities by any individual, group, or organization.

Generally, scheduling of University recreational facilities will be arranged on the "first-come, first-served" basis. However, priority may be given to physical education classes, varsity activities, intramural activities, recreational programs, or other University related programs or events.

Charges and agreements may be required for the use of University recreational facilities. Such charges will be established by the appropriate administrative personnel with approval by the vice president for finance and administration.

All persons are strongly advised to have health and accident insurance and to see a physician before participating in any physical activity. Neither the University nor individual units will accept responsibility for ill health or injury sustained while utilizing and/or participating in facilities or programs. Any injury sustained by a participant or spectator should be immediately reported to unit personnel on duty.

Neither the University nor individual units will be responsible for lost or stolen personal property; therefore, individuals are to keep their valuables with them and their lockers secure.

It is necessary for Michigan Technological University students and their spouses to properly identify themselves with a valid Tech Express Card to be eligible for any student/spouse rate.
