Chapter 23. Recreational Facilities

23.5. Student Development Complex

Definition

Student Development Complex (SDC): A multi-recreational facility owned and maintained by the University. The main purpose of the facility is to provide quality recreational programs for MTU students.


General Information

The SDC generally operates during the hours of:

Monday through Friday 6:30 a.m. to 10:00 p.m.
Saturday 8:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m.
Sunday 12:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m.

The facilities are generally closed on major holidays and the hours may vary during non-academic periods and the summer term.

Highlights of the SDC are:


Policy

Many of the Student Development Complex facilities are available at no cost for many University functions. They are also available for general public use on a rental basis. Arrangements for use of the SDC are to be made through the SDC manager. All reservation requests must be made at least 48 hours in advance of the desired scheduled event or rental.

All participants are required to be dressed in proper attire. Street shoes and street clothes are not permitted for gym and multipurpose room users. Bathing suits and trunks are the only allowable dress for pool users; bathing caps are strongly recommended. Black soled shoes and black squash and racquetball balls are not allowed by squash and racquetball room users.

By law, a nude hot water and soap shower is required to be taken by each person before being permitted to use the swimming or diving pool. Children under 8 years of age must be accompanied by an adult while using the pool.

Locker assignments are available through the Central Ticket Office. Towel service and various types of athletic and similar sports equipment items are available at the Equipment/Information Center. Those persons wishing to use this equipment should make payment of any fees or deposits at the Central Ticket Office and are required to present a pictured ID as security until return of such items. Users will be responsible for the replacement cost of all lost or damaged equipment.

Use of personal locks is permitted only with a daily pass. Non-University locks found on lockers for longer than one day will be removed.

It is necessary for Michigan Technological University students and their spouses to properly identify themselves with a valid University picture ID card to be eligible for any student/spouse rate.

Users of the SDC must maintain order and abide with the rules and regulations of the University and the SDC. The consumption of food and/or beverages is permitted only in designated areas. Controlled substances as well as carried-in food and beverages are not permitted.
