Chapter 2. Accounting Services
Section 2.10. BANNER
2.10.3. Passwords - Admin1 and BANNER
General Information
When passwords are set up initially or they are reset because the user has forgotten their password, users should change the passwords to something that no one else can guess.
Procedure
To change an Admin1 (Unix) password at any time, do the following:
- Type passwd at the system prompt:
admin1(n)% passwd
- Type the old and new passwords when prompted. The < > indicate information needed to be typed in:
- Old password: <old password>
- New password: <new password>
- Re-enter new password: <new password>
NOTE: Guidelines and rules to follow when selecting an admin1 password:
- The password must contain at least two letters and at least one numeral or special character.
- The password must be at least six characters long. If longer than eight characters, only the first eight are significant (such as Jell0123 and Jell0123456 are equivalent).
- Case is significant, upper and lower case are not interchangeable (such as 12DoNuts and 12donuts are not equivalent).
- The password cannot be the same as the user ID or the reverse of the user ID.
- The new password must differ from the old password by at least three characters (changing the case of a letter is not sufficient to qualify it as a different character).
- Avoid special characters, such as & and #.
To change a BANNER (Oracle) password at any time, do the following:
- Logon to BANNER.
- In the Direct Access box type: GUAPSWD
- Enter the old password next to Oracle Password:.
- Enter the new password next to New Oracle Password: and Verify Password:.
- Press enter or click OK.
OR
- Type bannerpw at the systems prompt.
admin1(n)% bannerpw
- Type the old and new passwords when prompted, as follows. The < > indicate information needed to be typed in.
- Old password: <old password>
- New password: <new password>
- Re-enter new password: <new password>
NOTE: Guidelines and rules to follow when selecting a BANNER password:
Do not use a dictionary word (any word or name that has ever been in print in any language). The rules that apply to selecting an admin1 password are good rules to follow, although they are not required for the BANNER password. The BANNER password is not case sensitive.
