2.10.3. Passwords - Admin1 and BANNER


General Information

When passwords are set up initially or they are reset because the user has forgotten their password, users should change the passwords to something that no one else can guess.


Procedure

To change an Admin1 (Unix) password at any time, do the following:

  1. Type passwd at the system prompt:

  2. admin1(n)% passwd

  3. Type the old and new passwords when prompted. The < > indicate information needed to be typed in:


    1. Old password: <old password>


    2. New password: <new password>


    3. Re-enter new password: <new password>

    NOTE: Guidelines and rules to follow when selecting an admin1 password:

To change a BANNER (Oracle) password at any time, do the following:

  1. Logon to BANNER.


  2. In the Direct Access box type: GUAPSWD


  3. Enter the old password next to Oracle Password:.


  4. Enter the new password next to New Oracle Password: and Verify Password:.


  5. Press enter or click OK.

OR

  1. Type bannerpw at the systems prompt.
  2. admin1(n)% bannerpw

  3. Type the old and new passwords when prompted, as follows. The < > indicate information needed to be typed in.


    1. Old password: <old password>


    2. New password: <new password>


    3. Re-enter new password: <new password>

    NOTE: Guidelines and rules to follow when selecting a BANNER password:

Do not use a dictionary word (any word or name that has ever been in print in any language). The rules that apply to selecting an admin1 password are good rules to follow, although they are not required for the BANNER password. The BANNER password is not case sensitive.
