This chapter contains information dealing with departments or divisions receiving gifts on behalf of the University and the Michigan Tech Fund. The information applies to all employees of the University, but is not all inclusive. The basic premise is the Michigan Tech Fund is organized and chartered as the official body to receive private gifts on behalf of Michigan Tech. It is officially recognized as a legal entity, both by the State of Michigan and the IRS. The general guideline is all contributions from private sources (individuals, corporations and companies, and foundations) are to be handled in one form or another, to the Michigan Tech Fund. For reference purposes, this material covers more general policies and procedures; more specialized information will be covered in other publications, such as guidelines for gift acceptance and processing. Please consult the executive director of Michigan Tech Fund if you need interpretive or more specific information, or visit the Web site of the Michigan Tech Fund.
