13.6.5. Reserve Service

Definition

Reserve Service: A place where materials can be put on reserve to enable more students and other Library patrons access to them.

Policy

Most materials placed on reserve are required reading for an entire class. Usually there is a high demand for materials as the faculty member assigns them. Generally, use of reserve materials is restricted to in-Library use with a time limit of one, two, or three hours per item. This ensures that heavily-used materials are readily available. Exams from previous semesters, course lecture notes, and readings for courses (textbooks usually not included) can be found here.

Procedure

To place material on Reserve, do the following:

  1. Complete a Reserve Book List and forward to the Reserve Desk.


  2. NOTE: This list becomes a permanent record for consultation by students; print legibly with ink or typewriter. List items by: 1) call number, 2) author, giving full name, and 3) title and edition. In the last column, indicate any special loan period (overnight, 24 hour, three day). If none is indicated, the items will be placed on two hour Library use only.

    NOTE: For convenience, a supply of these forms is sent to each faculty member at the beginning of each semester. Additional forms may be obtained from the Reserve Desk or the Circulation Desk.

To charge out material on Reserve, do the following:

  1. Present a valid Tech Express card at the Reserve Desk when requesting material.


  2. Use the material at a study table or carrel in the Library.


  3. Return material to Reserve Desk when finished with it.

Prior: 08/20/2001
Adopted: 03/25/2003 Changed the policy by adding the three hour time limit, changing per session to per item, and deleting the $1.20 per hour fine.
