Section 13.1. General Operations
13.1.2. Departments and Services
General Information
The Library consists of the following departments and provides the following services:
- Circulation: Checks out books, periodicals, and reserve materials; holds interlibrary loans, faxes, and off-site storage material for pick-up; places recalls on books that are currently checked out; searches for missing books; retrieves material from book returns; maintains sign up sheet for use of group study rooms; maintains telephone for free on-campus calls. Circulation is located on the first floor.
- Collection Management: Manages the selection and deselection of Library materials; works with faculty liaisons; identifies, gathers, and provides collection evaluation data; supervises the Library Preservation Program; and maintains files of sample journals, publishers' catalogs, and sources for evaluating old books. Collection Management is located in the southwest corner of the third floor.

- Michigan Tech Archives and Copper Country Historical Collections - Refer to section 13.5.1., page 31
- Photocopying Machines and Transparencies - Refer to section 13.6.1, page 34
- Reference and Instructional Services - Refer to section 13.6.4., page 37; Assists Library patrons in locating information and in using Library resources; provides course-integrated Library instruction and materials; offers Library tours, courses, individualized instruction, and guides; and assists faculty with the preparation of Library-related instruction and assignments.
- Study areas (carrels for individual study or rooms for group study) - Refer to section 13.5.5., page 33
- Technical and Automated Services - Refer to section 13.6.6., page 39: Orders, receives, catalogs, and processes all selected Library materials; checks in all journal issues; claims missing issues; manages binding operations; accepts and processes all theses and dissertations; repairs books; consults on preservation matters; and manages Voyager, the online catalog.
