Section 13.4. Locating and Borrowing Materials

PREVIOUS PAGE NEXT PAGE

13.4.3. Print Format Indexes and Abstracts

General Information

The Library has a collection of indexes/abstracts in print format, to search for articles on a particular subject in magazines, journals, and newspapers. The print format periodical indexes are most often used to search earlier time periods prior to electronic coverage. For example, the Readers' Guide to Periodical Literature (AI 3 .R2 INDEXES) is available back to 1900; the New York Times Index (AI 21. N5 INDEXES) is available back to 1913.

Most indexes and abstracts are arranged by call number and are located on the first floor. The Government Documents department contains indexes and abstracts appropriate to its collection.

Procedure

To locate a printed format index or abstract, do the following:

  1. Use a computer terminal and the Voyager Online Catalog, to find where an index is located.

  2. Make a note of the call number.

  3. NOTE: Printed indexes and abstracts may not be charged out.
