Chapter 13. Library
The primary function of the J. Robert Van Pelt Library is service to the University community. The Library is to provide reference and supporting materials for University academic offerings, resources for the furtherance of knowledge, and collateral materials for enlightenment, enrichment and development of University students, faculty, researchers, staff, and administration. Use by family members, alumni, and non-University individuals, groups, and organizations is permitted at the discretion of the University Librarian.
The rules and regulations governing the operations of the Library are for the effective, efficient dissemination of, and access to, Library materials and resources in an orderly and timely manner to as many patrons as possible. Enforcement of these rules and regulations depends in large part on the cooperation of all Library patrons. The mutilation or theft of Library materials, however, is a matter of serious concern and is subject to criminal actions under Michigan law.
Charges may be required for the use of Library services and facilities. Fines and penalties may also be imposed for various violations. Such charges will be established by the University Librarian with the approval of the provost and senior vice president for academic and student affairs.
Patrons of the Library must maintain order and abide by the rules and regulations of the University and the Library. Consumption of food, beverages, controlled substances, and the use of tobacco products is not permitted.
