Chapter 11. Intellectual Properties/Trademarks
Trademark Logo: A distinctive word, design or graphic symbol, or combination word and design, that distinguishes and identifies the goods and services of Michigan Tech from those of another university.
Corporate Services approves all commercial use of Michigan Tech's logo. The use of the MTU name, logos, seals, and/or other symbols of Michigan Technological University, in any commercial venture, even fund-raising or promotional activities, requires prior written approval from Corporate Services. Approval is based on accuracy of the design and the representation it conveys.
The complete name of the University is Michigan Technological University. It may be abbreviated to Michigan Tech, Michigan Tech University, or MTU.
The names of the University and its accompanying visual marks have been registered with the United States Patent and Trademark Office. To help encourage proper use of the University's name and logos and to prevent misrepresentation, camera-ready art is available from Corporate Services.
Michigan Technological University grants to the licensed vendors the nonexclusive right to use of the University's marks on approved licensed articles. Corporate Services maintains a list of licensed vendors who can assist in the making of a commercial product.
Prior to any use of Michigan Tech's trademark logo, and to receive approval for use of the MTU symbol and/or design, do the following:
