Section 11.4. Technology Transfer
Spin-Off Enterprise: The ultimate goal of technology transfer is the commercialization of Michigan Tech technologies developed through scholarly research activities. When it is determined that the concept is sufficiently developed to form the basis for a business start-up or enhancement, it will be necessary to separate the project from the University.
PolicyIf the University decides that the research project merits industrial development or technology transfer support, certain assistance and resources may be made available, within the policies and legal authority of the University, and within the limits of state and federal laws and regulations.
The entrepreneur will be required to sever employment connections with the University if the bar to contracting with the University is to be lifted. In this way, additional support and services could be provided by contract, consistent with state and federal laws and regulations. Arrangements for licensing of University technology, shared royalties, and/or equity are possible.
ProcedureOnce it has been determined a spin-off enterprise may be possible, do the following:
