Section 10.2. Administrative Computing Services

PREVIOUS PAGE NEXT PAGE

10.2.1. User Support

Definition

Functional Leader: The individual responsible for the functional aspects of the management information system and the primary business liaison to the administrative computing department.

Technical Leader: The individual responsible for the technical functioning of their assigned management information system and the primary technical liaison to the administrative unit for their assigned management information system.

General Information

Each functional area supported by ACS has an assigned technical leader. Each administrative unit has a functional leader. The functional leader and their department are directly supported by the ACS technical leader. Training and support of users is provided from the administrative computing department that is responsible for the particular business function being used. An example of this is the Accounting Services area. ACS has a technical leader assigned to support the Accounting Services area, staff, and functional leader. Accounting Services provides training and support for those that access the finance system and data that resides on the central administrative computing system.

Functional leaders are responsible for:

  1. Fully understanding the business practices and procedures of their department, particularly as it relates to the management information system.

  2. Conveying the functional business needs of the department to the administrative computing department’s technical leader.

  3. Working within their department and with their customer base in the setting of priorities for administrative computing support, system changes and enhancements, and conveying those to the technical leader.

Technical leaders, within the area they are supporting, are responsible for:

  1. Fully understanding the technical aspects of the management information system.

  2. Configuring, programing, and enhancing the management information system to address the functional needs of the area or department.

  3. Maintaining both the technical and data integrity of the system.

Procedure

Contact the administrative system’s functional leader when help is needed operating each administrative system.
