10.2. Administrative Computing Services

Definition

Administration Computing Services (ACS): A unit of the department of Information Technology (IT), which provides central administrative computing systems support and University data administration for the University’s central administrative computing system. ACS is responsible to insure the security and integrity of the central administrative system and database.

Data Custodian: The primary contact person (from a functional area) for anyone needing access to the central administrative computing system. The data custodian determines who receives access to the administrative system and what type of access will be granted.

General Information

The major functional areas supported by the central administrative computing system and their data custodians are:

Accounting Services - Bobbie Dalquist

Admissions - Bill Rosemurgy

Advancement/Michigan Tech Fund - Mary Jane Aho

Dean of Students - Steve Tyrell

Financial Aid - Adrene Remali

Human Resources/Payroll - Patty Kyllonen/Bob Soumis

Office of Student Records and Registration - Sharron Paris

Telecommunications Management - Brenda Helminen

Policy

ACS does not determine who receives access to the system and database. Each functional area has a designated data custodian who determines who receives access and what type of access will be granted. The data custodian is also responsible for supplying the user with system specific documentation and information on any training that may be required to use the system. The data custodian will either act as the contact for collecting and reporting system problems or provide the appropriate contact in their department for doing so.

Procedure

To obtain access to the administrative system and/or data base, do the following:

  1. Complete an Access Request Form, available from the appropriate data custodian.

  2. Obtain the signature of the user’s department head or immediate supervisor, indicating approval of the access.

  3. Return the completed and approved form to the data custodian.

  4. NOTE: The data custodian will notify the user when access has been activated. On initial access to any system, the data custodian will inform the user of the their userid and password.
