10.5.2. Electronic Display System


Definition

Electronic Display System: A distribution of information to the University community through the use of video monitors placed in high traffic areas on campus, the Internet, and on Michigan Tech Cable Channel 8. Educational Technology Services is responsible for this service.


General Information

The Electronic Display System is used for notices from Student Services such as registration/scheduling, University Career Center, and notices of emergencies. Others may use the Electronic Display System to announce campus activities, which are of general interest to the University community such as: concerts, lectures, sports events, plays, cultural exhibits, movies, and special group meetings.


Policy

All University units and student organizations registered by the Dean of Students office may request the use of the Electronic Display System. All requests must be submitted to Educational Technology Services via e-mail or fax.

Requests for basic message displays (not more than 60 words) must be submitted at least three days prior to the day on which the message is to begin to be displayed.

Unless previously approved by Educational Technology Services, messages will not be displayed for more than two weeks nor accepted earlier than two weeks before the event.

All message requests must be reviewed and approved by Educational Technology Services who reserves the right to modify or reject messages determined to be inappropriate.

Requests for displays for private charity organizations (such as Dial-HELP, Red Cross, Salvation Army) or for religious services will not be accepted.

Requests for displays, which advertise an off-campus business or the consumption of alcoholic beverages, will not be accepted.

Sales of any type will not be advertised unless approved in writing by the provost and senior vice president for academic and student affairs.

Messages will be displayed in the following order of priority:

  1. Academic and administrative activities and events.


  2. Intercollegiate athletic activities and events.


  3. Other University sponsored activities and events (including University supported student groups, such as Student Council, Student Entertainment Board, Memorial Union Board, Cultural Enrichment Committee, Faculty Development Committee). (On a first come, first served basis.)


  4. Registered student organization activities and events.


Procedure

To display a message on the Electronic Display System, do the following:

  1. Send an e-mail request to <eds@mtu.edu> or fax to 7-2787 with the following information:


    1. Date(s) to be displayed


    2. Sponsor/Organization


    3. Name of requestor


    4. Phone number and e-mail address of requestor


    5. Some information to include is; what is the activity, where is it taking place, when it is, who to call, etc. The actual text and layout may be changed to fit screen limitations.
