The University prohibits the following:
Students, employees, and visitors of Michigan Technological University must register all weapons with the Public Safety Department as soon as possible when bringing such item(s) onto University property. The individual must carry proof of registration while in possession of a weapon on University property. Weapons must be unloaded when transported into the Public Safety Building or other designated weapons storage area.
Registration in a Physical Education course in archery carries automatic registration of the bow and arrows for the purpose of this policy.
Any violation of this policy will render the violator liable to disciplinary action or expulsion.

Authorized law enforcement officers in the performance of their duties are exempted from these regulations.
Registered weapons and/or its ammunition being promptly transported or the use of such items as part of an authorized course activity are excluded.
The possession of explosives on University property is prohibited except for:

Ammunition — Includes bullets, shot, arrows, paintballs, BBs, air soft pellets and any other material that is shot, fired, discharged or otherwise released from a weapon.
Designated Weapons Storage Area — The Public Safety Weapons Storage Room; the rifle range, the archery range, and ROTC weapons storage facilities when used as part of an authorized course; or other areas that may be designated as weapons storage areas by the director of Public Safety.
Firearms — Includes rifles, pistols, shotguns, air rifles, paintball guns, air soft guns, and any other similar device that fires a projectile.
University Property — Buildings, facilities or grounds owned, leased operated controlled or supervised by the University.
Weapon — Includes firearms; archery or hunting bows; escrima sticks, bow staffs and other martial arts weapons; any device that fires a projectile; any weapon required by law to be licensed; blades greater than 3 inches long; or any other device of a similar nature and purpose.
Individual with Weapon on University Property - Upon arrival, registers weapon with Public Safety, carries proof of registration while in possession of the weapon, transports weapon unloaded, and stores weapon in designated weapons storage area. Weapon owners are responsible to supply a lock for the weapons locker.
Public Safety — Registers and/or authorizes the storage of the weapon; maintains the security of the weapon in the Weapons Storage Area; and retains documentation relating to the registered weapon.
University Personnel — Reports to public safety any weapons stored in unauthorized storage areas.
