I.C.9. Credits, Program Length, and TuitionMichigan Technological University applies quarter credit hours as a basic measure of its learning experience. Currently the total number of quarter credit hours required for a baccalaureate degree range from 186208 credit hours, with the majority of programs requiring 192 (see Undergraduate Catalog [1.3A]). At the graduate level, all graduate degree programs require a minimum of 45 quarter credits of course work and thesis/report research (see Graduate Bulletin [1.3B]). The credits required for completion of degree programs at Michigan Tech are consistent with requirements at our peer institutions. University transcripts include the course number, title, and credit hours. The tuition structure at Michigan Tech consists of four rates; resident undergraduate, non-resident undergraduate, resident graduate, and non-resident graduate. The current rate structure (including fees, room and board, and books) is accurately described in various university publications including the Undergraduate Catalog [1.3A], Graduate School Bulletin [1.3B], The TECHnological Advantage [7.5E], and Financial Aid and Scholarships [7.5G].
I.A.5. Institutional Compliance with Higher Education Reauthorization ActMichigan Technological University complies with Title IV requirements of the Higher Education Reauthorization Act as amended in 1992. Our cohort default rate, as reported by the U.S. Department of Education, for fiscal year 1994 was 2.3%. This compares to the national public 4-year average of 6.8%. Michigan Tech files compliance audits (OMB Circular A-133 Supplementary Financial Reports) with the Federal Government on an annual basis [4.1C]. There have been no significant issues raised in the annual audits; thus there have been no program reviews required.
Additions to IV.B.2. Institution's Advertising and Recruitment MaterialsThe Undergraduate Catalog [1.3A, p. 2] accurately describes Michigan Tech's affiliation with the North Central Association of Colleges and SchoolsCommission on Higher Education, including the address and telephone number. As new publications are being produced, the University Relations Office is ensuring that we are in compliance with the new regulations.
