Students who are (a) children of current, active alumni and who are in the upper 20 percent of their high school class, or (b) from Wisconsin, Minnesota, or Illinois, or Ontario (selected disciplines), who rank in the upper 15 percent of their high school class, or (c) transfer students from post-secondary institutions who are children of non-resident alumni or residents of Wisconsin, Minnesota, or Illinois or Ontario (selected disciplines) with a 3.25 grade point average on a 4.0 scale and who have been full-time students for one semester or two quarters or (d) students already enrolled at Michigan Technological University who are children of active alumni or residents of Wisconsin, Minnesota, or Illinois or Ontario (selected disciplines) who attain a 3.25 cumulative grade point average or higher on a 4.0 scale while enrolled full-time for two quarters or more will qualify for the exceptional student scholarship program. The scholarship equals the difference between nonresident and resident tuition.
The children of Active Alumni program shall be implemented beginning with fall quarter 1988. The Wisconsin/Minnesota program shall be implemented beginning with fall quarter 1988 and the Illinois program shall be implemented beginning with fall quarter 1989, and the Ontario program shall be implemented beginning with fall quarter 1991. A status report of the program shall be submitted to the Board of Control at its summer 1990 meeting.
Students who enter Michigan Technological University without exceptional student status will be permitted to use only their Michigan Tech grade point average when determining exceptional student scholarship status.
Students who are (a) non-Michigan residents of the United States or its territories or Canada, who rank in the top 15% of their high school class, or (b) non-Michigan residents of the United States or its territories or Canada, who transfer from a post-secondary institution with a 3.25 cumulative grade point average (4.0 scale) and who have been full-time students for one semester or two quarters, or (c) non-Michigan residents of the United States or its territories or Canada, who do not qualify under provisions (a) or (b) but attain a minimum 3.25 cumulative grade point average (4.0 scale) after attending Michigan Tech for a minimum of two quarters, will qualify for the Exceptional Student Tuition Rate.
This amendment is limited to only those students who initially enroll at Michigan Tech for one of the following terms: Summer 1995, Fall 1995, Winter 1995, or Spring 1996. The amendment does not apply to currently enrolled non-Michigan residents from states other than Illinois, Minnesota, Wisconsin, or the Providence of Ontario, Canada. Provision in this policy regarding children of alumni still apply.
The National Academic Scholarship (NAS) will take effect beginning summer term 1997, and will replace the Exceptional Student Tuition Rate (also known as the Exceptional Student Award).
Current or previously enrolled Michigan Tech students who qualified for the Exceptional Student Tuition Rate prior to summer 1997, will be covered under Board of Control policy 9.17. Current or previously enrolled Michigan Tech students who did not qualify for the Exceptional Student Tuition Rate under Board of Control policy 9.17, will not be eligible for the NAS. Furthermore, the Exceptional Student Tuition Rate program will be terminated at the end of spring semester, 2002.
