Eligibility
Nine or ten month academic faculty of the University are eligible for this optional plan.
Payment of Salary
Faculty electing the optional plan shall be paid at their "optional rate of pay."
Election
Election of the optional pay plan must be made prior to the first pay period of the fall semester or the start of employment for the twelve month period beginning on the first day of the academic year and is irrevocable for that twelve month period.
Fringe Benefits
Fringe benefits fully paid by the University shall continue in effect during the twelve month period except that pay for time-not-worked benefits, such as holiday pay, shall not accrue nor be paid during pay periods for which the faculty member is not receiving a paycheck. Fringe benefits accrued on a co-pay basis or fully paid by the faculty member will continue in force only if prepayment of the faculty member's share is made in advance of the period in which no paychecks will be received. Payments of benefits directly linked to the payment of salary, such as Social Security and retirement, will be suspended when paychecks are not issued.
Faculty eligibility for, and University payments to, all benefit plans shall terminate for those faculty members who resign their positions during the academic year. However, such benefit plans shall continue through the months of June, July, and August for those faculty members who resign their positions effective at the close of an academic year.
Procedure
Procedures for the implementation of this policy will be promulgated by the Provost and Senior Vice President for Academic and Student Affairs.
