By Legislative Act 266 of 1947, the State of Michigan authorized and appropriated funds for the conduct of research by Michigan Technological University "in the industrial utilization and marketing of Michigan wood products in order to develop industry and further employment in the forest areas of the State of Michigan. . ."
Section 2 of the Act reads: "The plans and results of said program shall be reviewed periodically by a non-salaried advisory committee appointed by the Board of Control of said college; said committee to include representatives of the several branches of the wood using industries.
This policy is intended to provide for orderly and continuous implementation of Section 2 of the legislation, so as to obtain maximum benefits to the University and to the State from the research programs as conducted by the Institute of Wood Research (IWR).
Within the intent of the legislation and the policy, the responsibilities and objectives of the Advisory Committee to IWR are:
