In those cases where counseling and/or medical evaluation indicate that it is necessary for a student to withdraw from Michigan Technological University, and the student refuses to withdraw voluntarily, an involuntary leave of absence may be imposed by the Dean of Students at the recommendation of a Mental Health Committee.
The Mental Health Committee will be composed of the Director of Counseling Services, a University appointed physician, and a University appointed attorney, or their designated representative approved by the Senior Vice President for Academic and Student Affairs. The student has the right to appeal to the President.
A copy of the involuntary leave of absence letter will become part of the student's file in the Dean of Students office. The Registrar will be informed by the Dean of Students that the student is no longer enrolled and may register only after reinstatement by the Dean of Students.
The student may seek reinstatement by presenting evidence to the Dean of Students that the medical/psychological condition has been satisfactorily resolved. The student may be reinstated by the Dean of Students after filing a formal application for reinstatement and upon the recommendation of the Mental Health Committee.
