Effective Date: 01/28/82

14.6. Michigan Technological University Press

The publication of scientific and scholarly material is an essential function of an educational and research institution. The existence of a Press at the Michigan Technological University would enable the University to sponsor and/or publish, under its own initiative, textbooks, and other material of significance in the fields of technology, research, and other scholarly endeavors.

A press shall be established at the University to be known as "The Michigan Technological University Press," for the purpose of publishing textbooks, manuals, bulletins, and other material of a scientific and scholarly nature. It shall be authorized to solicit manuscripts, to negotiate with authors and printers concerning publication of manuscripts, and to advertise, sell, and otherwise distribute publications according to such agreements as may be made.

The press shall be capitalized through funds provided for or approved by the Board of Control, and the Treasurer of the University shall be accountable for such funds. The press shall be managed by a Director who shall be accountable to the President of the University, and an Editorial Board will be created to advise the Director on matters pertaining to the selection and editing of manuscripts for publication.
