How much is tuition?
In-state tuition is per academic year for a full-time load of 15 credits; out-of-state is
. Tuition is payable by the semester. All US and Canadian residents are automatically considered for the National Scholars Program scholarships. Details on the National Scholars Program are here. More details on tuition can be found here.
What scholarships are available?
Michigan Tech has many different scholarship programs. In fact, 83% of our students receive financial aid. See details on scholarships and financial aid here.
What is the application deadline?
Michigan Tech operates on a rolling admissions basis. Applicants for the fall semester are strongly encouraged to apply prior to January 15. First-year applicants may apply to Michigan Tech beginning as early as the summer following your junior year of high school. Transfer students are encouraged to apply at least 30 days before the start of the semester. Admission to Michigan Tech is made on a space-available basis.
What is MTU's GPA requirement?
Requirements for GPA and ACT or SAT test scores vary for each academic program. Our admissions staff will be happy to discuss these requirements with you in detail on an individual basis. Please call us at 1-888-MTU-1885 or email at mtu4u@mtu.edu.
I’m a home schooled student. How do I apply?
Home schooled students follow the same application process as other applicants. You must submit an official transcript (even if it is handwritten) showing the courses you've taken and the grades you received. You must also have your official ACT and/or SAT test scores sent directly to Michigan Tech from the testing agency.
What about GED?
Michigan Tech's admissions committee reviews each application on an individual basis. Official GED test results will be accepted in lieu of a high school transcript.
Can I spend the night on campus?
Yes! You can take part in the free Husky Host program. You can spend up to two nights in the residence halls with a student host. You are welcome to attend class with your host student, and you will also receive a VIP pass valid for complementary admission to sporting, recreational or cultural events. Meals during your stay are included. Contact the admissions staff at least two weeks prior to your visit to arrange your accommodations. This overnight host program is not available during examination periods, term breaks or in the summer.
Where is Tech located?
Michigan Tech is located in Houghton, a small city in the beautiful Keweenaw (KEE-wah-nah) Peninsula. The campus sits on a hillside along the Portage Waterway. The best way to experience Michigan Tech is to visit. Directions to campus are here.
